The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the formation of a dedicated task force aimed at supporting displaced Afghan women cricketers.
As part of the initiative, the ICC will establish a special fund to provide direct financial assistance, ensuring these athletes have access to the resources needed to continue their cricketing careers.
In addition to monetary support, the program will include advanced coaching, access to world-class training facilities, and personalized mentorship to help players develop their skills and reach their full potential.
“We are deeply committed to fostering inclusivity and ensuring every cricketer has the opportunity to shine, regardless of their circumstances,” ICC Chairman Jay Shah said in a statement.
This move comes amid increasing concern over the future of Afghan women in sports, following restrictions imposed by the current regime in Afghanistan. The ICC’s initiative is seen as a significant step in promoting gender equality and safeguarding opportunities for women in cricket.
