Pen Bridge Report: Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric has officially joined Swansea City as an investor and co-owner, the Championship club announced on Monday.
The 39-year-old, who has captained Croatia and enjoyed a stellar 13-season run with Real Madrid—winning six UEFA Champions League titles—takes on this new role as he nears the twilight of his playing career. Modric previously played for Tottenham Hotspur before his move to Spain.
While Swansea did not disclose the size of Modric’s investment, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner expressed his enthusiasm about contributing to the club’s future.
“This is an exciting opportunity,” Modric said on Swansea’s official website. “Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fanbase, and the ambition to compete at the highest level.”
Swansea City currently competes in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football.
